One of the most attractive and colorful colonial cities in the coast of Peru, where important pre-Columbian cultures such as Mochica and Chimu flourished. These cultures allow us to enjoy its beautiful colonial designs and its interesting archeological patrimony, being the most important "Chan Chan", the "Huacas del Sol y Luna" ("Sun and Moon Huacas") and the modern complex "El Brujo". Trujillo was founded by Diego de Almagro in 1534 and it was later confirmed in 1535 by Francisco Pizarro. Excellent area for agriculture, where crops such as sugar cane and wheat were introduced, also estates and mansions were built, as well as a Jesuits school. At that time Trujillo gained an enormous prosperity. Due to its weather conditions, the "City of the Eternal Spring" is considered the third in the country, capital of the jaunty dance of "la marinera", thanks to its rich past and tradition. Trujillo also meets the future as one of the most prosperous zones at commerce and industry.
Chan Chan, the greatest mud city of the world, extends over an area of 18 km2. It was declared Cultural Patrimony of Mankind by UNESCO. Today only one of its nine old palaces are visited. The Templo de la Luna (the Moon Temple) shows beautiful murals in high relief with mythological designs, the Templo del Sol (the Sun Temple) is the highest adobe temple of America, and the resort of Huanchaco, which still remains as the millenary tradition of craft fishing on the "caballitos de totora", being part of its rich patrimony.

Geography and location:
Capital of the department of La Libertad. Located at the coast, 561 km. north of Lima, 139 km north of Chimbote, and 336 k, north of Huaraz.
The entrance to this City of the Eternal Spring can be made by air (daily flights from Lima) and by land from Lima, Huaraz, Chiclayo and Piura. The tourist areas connecting to/from Trujillo are: Huaraz, Chiclayo, Piura, Tumbes and Cajamarca.

CITY TOUR
3 hours
We will start the tour at the "Casa del Mayorazgo de Facala", mansion of remarkable historical tradition, and we will continue to Santo Domingo Small Square. Then we will visit the "Casa Urquiaga" of neoclassic style, the Plaza Mayor and La Libertad monument. We will also visit the "Casa del Mariscal Orbegozo", "La Libertad" monument, "La Merced" Church, "Casa de la Emancipación" of neoclassic style. Furthermore, we will visit the "Iturregui Palace", its wide gardens and galleries. "El Recreo" Square rounded by leavy fichus, we will also see the water enclosure (water distribution system in the colonial times). This visit will end at the "Muralla de Trujillo" and the Herrera Stronholder, who protected the City against pirate attacks since the XVII century.

CHAN CHAN CIRCUIT

We will start this circuit at the "Arco Iris" temple or "Dragon" Guaca, with quadrangular shape, and rounded by a trapezoidal wall of 6 m height. We will then visit the amazing archeological Chan Chan center, and we will go to the "Tschudi" Palace. Its walls are decorated with stylized friezes in high relief with zoomorphic and geometric figures, we will visit its ceremonial squares, places of worship, reservoirs, granaries, advising room, and cemeteries. We will then visit Huanchaco, which means (beautiful gold fish lake), ancestral small bay where we can appreciate the old Mochica vessels, "caballitos de Totora".

TEMPLOS DEL SOL Y LA LUNA

We will make a tour around the "Campiña de Moche" where the highest adobe temple of America is located: Templo del Sol (Sun Temple), a magnificent adobe monument of 45 Mt. high. Barely 100 mts away Templo de La Luna (Moon Temple) is located, at the "Cerro Blanco" slopes (The White Mountain), built with 6 ceremonial platforms and ornamental walls with beautiful arabesques in high relief showing motifs of the Mochica mythology. Then we will visit the traditional town of Moche and the "Delicias" resort.

CHICAMA:VALLEY EL BRUJO

This tour will take us to the towns of Chicama, and Chiclin. Then we will visit the archeological complex "El Brujo", one of the most valuable sites of the Peruvian Coast, consisting of three towns or Huacas: "Huaca Prieta" (pre-Ceramic dark Hillrock, 3,000 BC), "Huaca Partida" (corresponds to the Moche culture, with frieze in plain relief) and Huaca Blanca which name responds to the colour of its wall, the biggest bulding of the complex.
